SERVICE FOR PUMP SYSTEM IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA ON LARGE LPG CARRIER

The vessel which is one of the worlds largest LPG carriers in operation has strange and unexpected failures in the cargo pump system. The vessel has issued drydocking a few weeks before and has problems at 1st discharge in the Mediterranean Sea.

AA MARINE arranged on short notice an experienced pump superintendent to carry out a preliminary survey for the cargo pumps. All spare parts and tools ware prepared for the vessel. When our superintendent attended the vessel he concluded that both cargo pumps was stock and not able to turn. Both pump cylinders became dismantled in tank and all parts were investigated for failure. It was very soon confirmed that the problems were in the pump cylinder in the tank bottom.

When the cylinder was opened, garbage from last discharging was found in the impeller sektion. This was the reason why both cargo pumps were unable to turn. Both cylinders were sampled, measured and cleaned and 24 hours later both pumps were placed in correct position.
